The first milestone of a project is the purchase of property and is usually a lonely step. The second milestone, obtaining all approvals and permits, is highly fulfilling but not particularly spectacular: it is nothing more than a letter delivered in the mail. Groundbreaking—the third milestone—is a real pleasure and heralds the moment that theory becomes practice. The groundbreaking ceremony symbolizes a new beginning, anticipation of the future, and a chance to get together with the various project participants. In late August, we FINALLY celebrated the groundbreaking of The Blend!!!
Such a dreamy day …
Gorgeous late summer weather, a lovely building site, shovels at the ready, a food truck with tasty tidbits of French cuisine, flags, flowers, and—most importantly—cheerful guests, all of whom play an important role in our award-winning project. What a dream of a groundbreaking ceremony ...
We love to celebrate. And we love to build!
Kicking off the official groundbreaking ceremony, we heard a few words from municipal councilor Christian Hursky, district alderman Marcus Franz, and Louis Obrovsky, the managing director of LLB Immo KAG and the new owner of the building, and—of course—by Dominik Peherstorfer, our managing director.
The Blend has been honored with a bunch of awards and certifications, including being a candidate at the International Building Exhibition IBA_Vienna 2022, participant in the WieNeu+ neighborhood renewal program, the DGNB gold-level pre-certification, and the bronze klimaaktiv award for planning. The various speakers highlighted these special achievements and the sustainable path the project is taking. They talked about the appreciative communication during the different project phases and their satisfaction with the already-signed leases for a new restaurant and a three-classroom kindergarten. We also enjoyed an outpouring of encouraging words, mixed in with a joke or two.
After the official groundbreaking ceremony and a group photo, we had cold drinks, savory galettes, sweet crepes, and good conversation.
Who was there?
Along with Vienna city and district officials,
representatives, we were happy to greet neighboring residents, the architects at t-hoch-n, the founders of the restaurant “handverlesen”, the management of St. Nikolausstiftung, the project coordinator, IBA_Vienna and WieNeu+ representatives, our sustainability consultants, our sales partners at EHL, and of course everybody involved in construction, HVAC, geothermal energy, and site management (Wibeba, Neidhart, Porr, and iC consulenten). A good handful of us “Avorisians” were there as well. We had a great time! We love to celebrate. And we love to build!PS:
During the ground-breaking ceremony, the first depth probe for geothermal energy was "sunk" 150 meters deep into the earth. It's also well-prepared energetically.
